“King Herod heard of it, for Jesus’ name had become known. Some were saying, ‘John the baptiser has been raised from the dead;” Mark 6: 14-29
In this passage King Herod has heard about Jesus. Some are saying He is John the Baptist back from the dead, that’s how He can perform these miracles. Others are saying He is Elijah and others are saying He is a prophet.
I wonder what we would say if He came back to the world today? Would the world acknowledge Him as our Lord? Would we recognise Him and acknowledge Him? The world is quite a cynical place nowadays and the times of miracles being believed are a distant memory washed away by our scientific knowledge and their explanations, a shrug of the shoulders and murmurs of ‘coincidence’ for the other stuff we can’t explain. How would the world react to this person claiming to be God or from God? Would he be labelled ‘crazy’ and sent to a hospital or dubbed an illusionist maybe?
I like to think that, of course, our God is smarter than that, smarter than us. He knows a way that we would believe Him. Would the way He did it last time work again? I doubt it but when I try to think of how it could be done I can’t fathom it. We can trust in God that he knows and when the time is right He will be back and He will find a way to be recognised. In the mean time we just need to keep our eyes open, our hearts open and be ready.
“Keep awake therefore, for you do not know on what day your Lord is coming.”
Matthew 24:42
