Charity chatter, knit and natter, create a craft ….
Whether you're a knitter, or prefer craft of other sorts, you are warmly welcome to join us at St John's.
The St John's Knitting Group has been meeting every Wednesday afternoon for two hours since 1984 when the Band Aid Charity was launched to mobilise resources for famine relief in Africa. Started as a charitable venture, we continue to focus our projects on charity and nowadays our knitting has a worldwide reach.
But more than that, we are also a social group and our meeting always includes refreshments; tea or coffee, biscuits and sometimes home made cake! There is always good conversation and companionship whilst we work!
Examples of our knitting ministry includes knitting or crocheting squares for the comfort blankets we provide for the Children in Distress charity, which cares for children of all races and religions and its work crosses all ethnic and religious boundaries in order to achieve its aim: to cure, sometimes; to help, often; to comfort, always.
We also support Knit for Peace UK which is an initiative of the Charities Advisory Trust who distribute donated knitting to wherever items are needed most.
Do come along and join us! If you want to join our knitting project, then a pair of size 8/4mm knitting needles and DK (double knitting) wool will help you (although we have supplies here too). But do feel free to bring along your own craft projects!
Even if you can’t come along, we are always very grateful for donations of double knitting wool!
