The Parochial Church Council (PCC) works with the parish priest in promoting the whole mission of the Church in the parish. The PCC has a number of responsibilities, including management of the church finances, buildings and possessions and oversight of worship. The PCC is chaired by the parish priest, and its members are elected at the Annual Parochial Church meeting.
The church has two churchwardens, who are responsible for many areas of church life on a day-to-day basis, and who support the work of the parish priest and congregation. The churchwardens are elected annually, and are members of the PCC.
Other elected officers of the PCC include the Secretary, the Treasurer and the Electoral Roll Officer. The PCC membership also includes the church's two representatives on the Deanery Synod, the forum for churches in the local area (Cambridge South Deanery) to exchange views on matters affecting the Deanery.
A lot of the work of the PCC is delegated to subcommittees, who will co-opt membership from the church in order to widen the representation and to bring in expertise. The principal subcommittees at St John's include:
