The church of St John the Evangelist is an Anglican parish church in the south of the city of Cambridge. It is part of the Cambridge South Deanery within the Archdeaconry of Cambridge which itself is within the Diocese of Ely.
The Parish of St John's is situated in a residential area on the south side of Cambridge, at the junction of the long-established Hills Road and Blinco Grove. Our local roads were developed around the end of the 19th Century and early 20th Century as the town needed to expand. It is interesting to see how this expansion is portrayed in maps made at the time; examples are shown in our old maps page. The area has a charming – but nowadays rare – Victorian letter box.
The parish boundaries encompass the famous Addenbrooke's Hospital, the Cambridge Leisure Centre, Homerton College (which is almost opposite the church), the Faculty of Education of the University of Cambridge, Hills Road and Long Road Sixth Form Colleges, the Morley Memorial Primary School, the Perse School, the Perse Pelican School and Homerton Children's Centre. The local area can be see in maps in our location page.
The parish has approximately 8000 "permanent" residents, together with the residents of the Addenbrookes campus and Homerton College.
