Rustat Road

There were approximately 20 properties and households in Rustat Road at the outbreak of World War 1.


No. 33 Briarcliffe:


John Stewart Campbell, b 1891, joined up on 11/11/1914 and became a lance corporal in the 1st Suffolk Yeomanry. However he was discharged 19/9/1916 when he was diagnosed with haemophilia following severe bleeding when having some teeth extracted.


Julia Campbell, b. 1856, wife of Walter, volunteered from 1914-191 with the Red Cross. Walter was living with his family in 1911 in Sidney Street and is described as 'assistant grocer of the poor.'


No. 21 Blythswood: Mrs Ridgen volunteered for the Red Cross from 1914-1919.
